Gavin is Technical Manager for SOCOTEC UK within the Renewable Energy business unit which is part of the larger Environmental Science Division. He joined SOCOTEC in January 2020 from Stobart Energy (Now Esken) as Technical Supervisor to be mentored by George Bradley who was Technical Support Manager at the time and assumed the role of Technical Manager in January’22. Gavin is a technical expert in manual and mechanical sampling, sample preparation and physical testing. An important part of Gavin’s job is being an active participant in standardisation through SOCOTEC’s membership of BSI Technical Committee PTI/017. He represents the UK on 2 international standard organisation Technical Committee’s, ISO Technical Committee 300 – Solid Recovered Materials including Solid Recovered Fuels and ISO Technical Committee 238 – Solid biofuels of which he actively participates within several working groups within both committees. In a previous life he proudly served in the Royal Navy for just short of 13 years with the highlight being a 2 ½ year draft in Gibraltar. Gavin is married with 2 children, both boys (13 & 9) and has a black Labrador called Bill. For his sins he follows Sheffield Wednesday but on a more positive front he’s also a big fan of Ice Hockey and enjoys watching the Sheffield Steelers when possible. Gavin gets on the ice himself, still playing Ice hockey at the great age of 42 for the Don Valley Vikings which is a successful recreational team based in Sheffield, his love of hockey actually started on wheels as a teenager and had predominately played inline hockey until last year with a brief spell playing Ice for the Navy.
