Head Industrial CCS Business Models at Department for Business,
Carly Leighton is Head of the Industrial Carbon Capture Business Models Team in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s Industrial Energy Directorate. Carly heads up a team responsible for designing the commercial framework for industrial carbon capture projects, to enable deployment in the 2020s. Carly’s experience is a policy professional with a background in the renewable energy industry. She joined BEIS in 2015 and before joining the Industrial Carbon Capture Business Models team worked on the Contract for Difference scheme for renewable electricity as a Policy Manager.

Susie has a background in engineering, which she applies to her work in energy policy with emphasis on innovation and whole systems decarbonisation of the energy sector. She has advised on wide-ranging policy areas, including electricity market reform, integrated policies for low carbon domestic heating and transport, and the development of a low carbon hydrogen industry within the UK. She brought her whole systems knowledge to work with BEIS on EfW with CCS last year, placing this exciting new prospect in the wider context of economy wide decarbonisation and assessing the potential policy considerations.
