Cameron Smith
Partner
Ashurst

Cameron has been a partner of Ashurst for over 20 years and specialises in infrastructure and energy projects and project financing, with particular experience of both UK and international PPP and private sector projects across a variety of industry sectors.

His clients include primarily sponsors and funders. Over the last few years he has focussed heavily on waste-to-energy, biomass, biogas and carbon capture projects. In particular, Cameron has led Ashurst's teams on:

the Dublin Waste to Energy PPP Project;

the Runcorn EfW project, acting for Ineos Chlor;

the Riverside Energy from Waste PPP project;

the Walsall Energy from Waste Project;

the Earls Gate EfW CHP Project;

the Newhurst Energy Recovery Facility;

the Protos Energy Recovery Facility;

the establishment of a JV platform to develop pyrolysis end-of-life tyre recycling plants across Europe;

the development of two separate biogas production plants to supply biomethane and electricity to large corporate off takers, capturing the CO2.

Most notably, Cameron also led Ashurst's team on the development and financing of the first carbon capture plant in the energy from waste sector, the project financed Protos CCS facility. The Protos CCs Project is one of the first two anchor projects to join Eni's Liverpool Bay Transportation and Storage ("T&S") Network, part of the UK Government's HyNet Carbon Capture Cluster.
